L.A. CONSULATE CELEBRATES NATIONAL FLAG DAY

Los Angeles, 27 May 2011 – The officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles and the public in attendance held a flag ceremony at the Rizal Hall of the Consulate General to commence the celebration of Philippine National Flag Day.
The Philippines will celebrate its Flag Days beginning 28 May 2011 to commemorate the Battle of Alapan which happened on 28 May 1898, when the first Philippine flag was first hoisted at Teatro Caviteno. The celebration will culminate on 12 June 2011, to commemorate the formal proclamation of independence in Kawit, Cavite.
The elements of our flag date back to the revolutionary era but its present format was codified in 1936 under the Philippine Commonwealth Government.
