Los Angeles, 16 December 2010 – The annual “Simbang Gabi and Parade of Parols”, which marks the start of the 9-day novena mass before Christmas, was held on 15 December 2010 at the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral located in downtown Los Angeles.
The event was held under the auspices of the Office of the Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and was officiated by His Eminence Cardinal Roger Mahoney, who celebrated his last Simbang Gabi as the head of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He was joined by the Auxiliary Bishops of Los Angeles and more than 30 clerics during the celebration.
During his homily, Cardinal Mahoney emphasized the importance of the Filipino family ties as an effective tool for evangelization.

During the culmination of the mass, Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon presented to Cardinal Roger Mahoney a Plaque of Appreciation recognizing his quarter of a century of dedicated stewardship of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, his untiring advocacy to celebrate the diverse experiences, cultures and charisms of the faithful in Los Angeles, and the indelible mark he will be leaving in the hearts of the Filipino-Americans in our community.###end
